The Long Term
- 11 Comments... What do you have to say?
It’s not official or anything, but even the most optimistic people regarding cash legalisation said that they don’t expect cashgame to be introduced within April. That sucks, but I think it does also a lot of good things.
- I can finally drop my idea of Vegas. My original plan is not going to succeed and to save me from frustration I rather drop the idea now than living a lie and chase after my dream(goals).
- It gives me more room to grind out rakeback of the last weeks what I haven’t earned yet. I’ve about 2,5k€ to earn on GD and 3,5k on Stars.it but I need to grind lots of rake to unleash them (and I won’t do that when I do play cash)
- It gives me more time to study cashgame strat. At the moment this is all I do all day long and I really enjoy it. Homers awesome graphs are such a good motivation!
Obviously I’d prefer to start cashgame as soon as possible, but it’s not the end of the world either. Vegas will still be there after this summer. Sometimes (or to be honest mostly) I lose myself in short-term ideas and I forget about the real important thing: The longterm.
Without being cocky, I’ve a wonderful life and I wouldn’t want to change it with anybody. The thing what I just realized is that I’ll have an even more wonderful in 2, 5 or 10 years. While other people have to get up in the morning and have to leave the house I’m free to decide when I get up (and believe me, I’m not the type of guy who wants to get up at 6am, nor at 8am the morning to leave the house). Moneywise I’ll be way more flexible than if I’d be working in an office and had one million degrees. These things seem natural to me, but if I think a little bit harder about it, I realize what luck I had to jump on the “Pokertrain” almost four years ago.
I’m in such a good temper that I’d like to announce at least 1 video for MTT/SNG players. Play will be probably very basic and ABC to give you guys an idea of how to beat at least up to €30s SNGs or €100 donkaments. Not sure when I’m going to record these things, but I’d like to hear some ideas/suggestions/thoughts.

id love to see mtt majors. alternativly a plovid (homer
)
Why you don’t play cashgames on FT?
got to clear these things anyways. i definitly prefer ipoker/ongame due to higher rb and more weaker players.
sunday i went pretty deep in ftops k.o. again, that would have been a nice vid, but unfortunately i busted out in 130th.
hi tobias, a sessionreview (you record and than comment) of 30-100€ sngs would be cool.
ill take that into consideration, sounds kinda intresting tho
bin gerade über deine Seite gestolpert, vieleicht hasst Du Lust meinen Blog zu verlinken.
Poker Blog
kannst du uns auch irgendwie verlinken?
Hi Tobias!
You wrote that you were studying cg. What exactly are u doing? Watching videos? Reading forums? Books?
I´m asking because I mostly play MTTs at the moment but I also want to play cg in the future. However, not nearly as high as you do…
greez and ty, Mitch
the key of success is definitly having a plan. review your game and find out where you have problems. analyze your weaknesses and work on them. if you think your game is equally good/bad than start by building a knowledge framework. i definitly recommend balugawhale bible. alternativly you can buy cts nlhe book as well.
videos are a good way to improve but you should treat them carefully. not all vids are good, some are very good but they lack of good explanations ect. always ask yourself WHY hero is doing something. try find spots in your own game which differ from the way the coach played the hand. talk with other people about the hand / poker in general. 2+2 is still a very good forum for poker discussion but try to think not like a 2+2er, dont get caught up with bet flop bet/fold turn ect. try to think outside that box, basically try to think with your own head.
it sounds kinda weird but the most important thing when learning is THINKING. i used to play more than 30, sometimes 40 tables and fwiw i wasnt thinking at all. i was totaly autopiloting. couple of weeks ago i started 3-4 tabling. i was sure im going to get bored pretty soon but there are so unbelievable many things you can improve and million things you are going to note. once you discover these things, once you have the sensation of all the million things you can improve and once you have a general idea where you weaknesses and strengths lie your doing it right. at least thats how i feel about learning.
fwiw due to reading strategy, doing math, discussing hands (basically learning), i started reading/learning for other things as well. its like a cycle, a attidue towards life, the desire to improve the own abilites and skills. i think i stopped sometime last year in february/march and since than till end january early feb i probably learned at best 10 hours for the game. im glad i started learning again, i feel way better and it started affecting my life in a positive way. it starts to make sense why i was depressed that often last year. if you have motivation problems i really recommend “carol dweck: mindset – the new psychology of success”
btw. about math: i do tons of math, but mainly because im terrible at math. for me calculating fold equity, finding the correct ev for a move ect. is like for other people crossword puzzle. of course its important, but by all means, you dont need to be a math pro to beat the game. however basic math, simple equity calculations are mandatory and i think thats the first thing someone should learn when starting with poker (aka cashgame).
hope this helps
ive got some problems with the video, audio/video is not syncron. i use camstudio, if anyone can help me please post in this thread:

thank you
Wow, thank you very much for your long and honest post. I think it contains really useful inputs for me! I also had phases when I played the same strategy/basic plan for several weeks/months. But even something as simple as reviewing hands/posting difficult ones in forums/discussing them can help me a lot. So although I read many books/articles and watched many vids I think I´m almost at the beginning of THINKING through my own game and not just copying what others are recommending/doing.
Ty again, greez
